Dedicated to Clinical & Academic Exchange of Information Research Grants
rule

The CyberKnife® Society offers a modest research program intended to foster clinical research and the expeditious publication of outcome studies relating to radiosurgery.  A total yearly sum of $200,000 is allocated for this program, and applications are accepted on a semi-annual basis in April and October.

Applications will be accepted from any person but the principal investigator must be a CKS member at the time the award is granted.

Submission Instructions

The submission must include the following information:

  1. Contact information for the Principal Investigator, including name of Institution and a brief biographical sketch of relevant information
  2. A proposed research summary that is no longer than two pages in length and includes the following information about the project:
    • Rationale and hypothesis
    • Patients to be studied and methods for data collection
    • Methods for analyzing data so as to address the hypothesis
    • Expected goals and clearly defined deliverables
    • An itemized budget detailing how the requested funds will be used
  3. The completed, two-page application including the signature of the Principal Investigator

The entire submission should not exceed 5 pages, and extra material may be discarded.

Deliverables

The deliverables for the project are particularly important and should be detailed enough to include dates and the anticipated outcome of the research. Most often the deliverable is a paper submitted for publication or an abstract for presentation at a meeting. However, other tangible evidence of work completion, such as software for a data base, are also acceptable.

Review Process

A multi-specialty committee will review the applications and award grants to the most meritorious projects.  In making decisions regarding funding, there will be a strong preference for clinical outcome studies, and especially for research directed towards novel and under-studied subjects such as non-CNS radiosurgery.  During the review process those proposals with the potential for the shortest timeline to publication in the medical peer-reviewed literature will be given special consideration.  There is no strict criterion for how such funds are to be used, but some examples of possible expenditures include the development of research tools and the partial salary support for activities such as collecting patient follow-up data and statistical support.

Up to fifty percent (50%) of the funds granted to a particular project may be disbursed immediately following the notification of an award being granted and receipt of the signed contract from the principal investigator.  The balance of the funds will be distributed only after the approved deliverables have been produced.
